Over 600 people turned out for the "Celebrate the King for a Cause" event in Hagerstown on Friday night Jan 8th 2010.
Friday was Elvis' birthday and what one local man saw as a chance to raise money for The American Cancer Society's Washington County’s Relay for Life.
Hagerstown resident Tim McCoy organized the huge event which was held at the Elks Lodge in honor of his wife who passed away from cancer last year.
The guest of honor was 15 year-old Josh Forsythe. The Hagerstown teen has been fighting Ewings Sarcoma since 2008. Robby Griesmeyer, 15 of Westminster, was also at the event. Griesmeyer is also battling Ewings Sarcoma. Forsythe and Griesmeyer met at Sinai Hospital.
In addition to artist Kevin Booth's Elvis impersonation, the night featured the local band "The Cruisers." Members of the U.S. Navy Honor Guard, the Hagerstown Firefighter Local 1605 Honor Guard, Civil War reinactors, the Washington County Amvets Post 10, and NBC25's Mary King were also a part of the night's events.
The total amount of money raised is not available yet.
